The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud's Industrial Blades
Freud’s Industrial Series of blades are designed for the serious woodworker. Available in a variety of styles for different applications, LU and LM blades feature thick carbide tips, precision tensioned bodies and other premium features found in every Freud blade. Industrial blades include red Perma-Shield coating or Silver ICE coating to help reduce friction, heat build-up and gumming, which add up to mean longer blade life.

About the 10-Inch 24-Tooth FTG Thin Kerf Ripping Saw Blade
This exceptional Freud blade requires less energy to feed the material into the saw blade, and eases the strain on your power tool. The "fusion" tooth design gives glass smooth side finishes as well as a chip-free top and bottom during both ripping and crosscutting applications; and the Perma-Shield permanent non-stick coating reduces friction, protecting this thin kerf saw blade against corrosion, gumming and pitch build-up. This laser blade made from high-strength steel is built for long life and precision, and it comes pre-tensioned to remain flat through the shocks from cutting and stresses from turning at high speeds. Its anti-vibration reed design eliminates all vibration and produces the cleanest cuts possible, making the use of a stabilizer unnecessary.

Applications
This blade gives new life to underpowered table saws and radial arm saws because the thin kerf does not require much horsepower. The Perma-Shield coating helps this blade pull 1/3 less on the saw, which translates into over 33% more cutting power. The ideal working range is from 3/4 to 2-3/4-inch thick wood, plywood, laminate, or chip board.

Circular Power Saws - Adjusting, Setting, and Choosing The Right Blade

In a previous article I covered selecting the right circular saw and using it in a safe manner. In this article I'll cover how to adjust and set your new saw as well as how to pick the right blade for the job.

Miter Saw Blade

A safety tip before I go on. When replacing a blade, make sure that it will be turning in the right direction. This is generally indicated by an arrow on the blade. Putting the blade on incorrectly significantly increases the risk of personal injury.

Miter Saw Blade

Although circular saws operate at maximum efficiency when they are adjusted to cut just through the bottom of the work, many users leave the blade at the full-depth adjustment for general work. The difference in performance is only noticeable when you are cutting thick wood.

If the tilt angle of the saw has been changed at a previous stage of the job, be sure that it is correctly readjusted. You can check for right-angle cuts by cutting a scrap piece of wood and using a square on the cut section. If you adjust the saw for miter or bevel cuts, test the angle on a scrap piece before the cutting the pieces intended for the job.

When trying out a new saw, spend the time to familiarize yourself with all the adjustments by making several cuts on scrap wood. In this way you become familiar with this particular saw and the accuracy of its settings. Each saw is different, even among the same models. The calibration on the saw, showing angles and distance, should only be used as a guide, never for actual measurements. Remember, too, that the width of the saw kerf (cut) and the types of blades used affect the precision of the final result. Remove gum, dirt, and pitch from the bottom of the saw frequently as it will build up overtime to the point where the saws performance is diminished. Occasionally waxing the bottom of the saw is a good idea. It will help the saw glide smoothly over the work area. Also, make sure the trigger switch is operating smoothly and it does not inadvertently lock into the "On" position.

Choosing The Right Saw Blade.

Combination crosscut and rip blade - Suitable for most purposes. This blade does a good job of cutting thick or thin hardwoods and softwoods with or across the grain, as well as plywood and hardboard.

Crosscuts blades - This blade possesses fine teeth which cut smoothly across the grain of the wood. Suitable for cutting hard and soft wood as well as framing lumber such as 2x4's. This blade is not suitable for ripping.

Rip blade - A blade with larger teeth. This one is recommended for cutting a large amount of wood while going with the grain.

Hollow ground blade - This blade makes the sharpest cuts. It handles both thick and thin materials with little effort. Keep this blade sharp however to minimize wood fiber from fraying and scorching.

Abrasive blade - These blades are made to use on masonry, metal, plastic, and other hard-to-cut materials. Buy the blade to suit the material being cut.

There you have it. By now you should be comfortable enough to set up your circular saw to use. Just remember to take your time, test your adjustments, and always use the right blade for the job.

Hitachi Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I work as a professional contractor. During past few years I was using various different compound miter saws and to be honest - the one that I like the most is definitely Hitachi 10 inch sliding one.

Miter Saw Blade

Hitachi company has built many high quality products so this one turned out to be very durable and reliable as well. Quality and wide range of features make this tool number one in its price range. In this article I'll try to make detailed descriptions of every useful feature of this high quality sliding compound miter saw!

Miter Saw Blade

First of all, there is an electric brake. By reversing the flow of electricity, it immediately stops the blade. This is very useful if something goes wrong because blades tend to be very sharp. This way blade is stopped in less than a second.

After that, there is electronic speed control. This piece of software electronically controls the RPM of the blade and ensures constant speed from the beginning to the end of the cut. This feature gives you increased control over workpiece.

Additionally, there is also new type of transmission - Poly-V-Belt transmission. It is much better than regular transmission because it reduces recoil during startup.

Also, there is adjustable pivot fence and line ball-bearing slide system in case you need increased capacity or to make cuts deeper than 12-13 inches. For precision and accuracy there is a built-in laser system. Usually it works right out of the box. However, in case there are needed some adjustments - it can be easily done without reading the manual in a matter of few minutes. And after that you can have perfectly accurate cuts.

All those features on one sliding compound miter saw sound really good, don't they? Combine that with above-average materials and you'll get the best tool on the market!

Uses and Advantages of the Horizontal Band Saw

One of the delights of a professional handyman is knowing how to properly use the tools he works with. That is why knowing how to use a horizontal band saw or vertical band saw will be his pleasure. That is why before procuring one it is important such person takes the following considerations..

Miter Saw Blade

First, a vertical band saw and a horizontal band saw are different band saw tools, which can be used to work on metals to achieve different things. The horizontal kind is typically used in making cuts in large work pieces since it possesses capacity to do this..While a vertical type which uses less power makes continuous cuts by utilizing its circular endless blades. It has the capacity to perfect complicated cuts..A band saw is a power tool that can be used for working on metal, wood and for cutting other types of materials such as plastic. Which means a lot of power will be consumed when using this tool, therefore, one important consideration to have when getting a band saw is power consumption required by the particular type you are buying. If what you will be using the band saw for is cutting through large logs, then much power will be required and this means increased energy bills for you..In addition to this, another consideration you should have when getting a horizontal band saw or the vertical type is the kind of blade you will require. This is necessary as the type of blade you procure determines cuts made. In other words, different blades make different cuts. For more information on this, ensure you speak with a sales representative..

Miter Saw Blade

The other concerns, which you should bother yourself with in this article pertain to vertical band saw in particular and they are the table size and the accessories. It is better and wiser in buying a larger table as this will give more prop for long and wide materials when you want to work on them. And for accessories, you should get a rip fence and miter gauge as these are beneficial to this band saw type..

On a final note you should always check the product label of any band saw you wish to purchase. Check for the rating, the product, motor, dimension specification. And also ask questions from the sales personnel when you need to get clarifications on things you don't understand..Following the considerations stated here should put you in a good position when attempting to buy a horizontal band saw or its vertical counterpart..

Chop Saw - Quick, Easy Cuts

Also known as a motorized miter or drop saw, a chop saw is a tool that can cut a very fast and precise crosscut. They are normally used for framing and molding and are usually small and rather portable. These tools, like many other power tools around the workshop, require practice and knowledge in order to be used safely and effectively.

Miter Saw Blade

With this tool, the powered saw blade is brought down in a quick, precise drop that cuts the piece, which is held along a vertical piece of metal known as a fence. The fence holds the work piece at a 90 degree angle, though other angles are possible. The blade is dropped down (typically along a pre-drawn line) and the piece is cut to the exact measurements.

Miter Saw Blade

A chop saw can come with some specialized attachments that can improve its functionality. One of these, known as a compound, allows the blade's angle to be set relative to the horizontal plane, usually in a range between negative and positive 50 degrees. Another attachment, called a slide, lets the blade be moved in a long parallel cut relative to the work piece. Recent technology has allowed the use of lasers to guide the blade more precisely, and other attachments clean up dust (which is notoriously difficult to get rid of around a drop saw).

As with any sharp tool in the workshop, care must be taken to operate the blade safely and effectively. Personal protective equipment such as gloves and eye goggles should be worn at all times. Though sometimes uncomfortable, this not only can help against accidents but long term health issues such as dust getting into the respiratory system. All the safety instructions of the chop saw should be obeyed at all times. Short cuts may lead to nasty cuts.

In terms of effectiveness, many people forget that the blade itself has a diameter. Some of the wood is lost while making a cut. This may not be significant to most people, but it can throw off precise cuts. Therefore, when making a cut it is advisable to cut on the side outside of the desired length of the work piece. Also, sharpening the blade on a regular basis is recommended, as the wood can have a dulling effect on the blade itself.

Given the right amount of knowledge, a chop saw will make several tasks in the workshop a snap. Its quick cutting action will be heaven for those who have had to manually saw a piece of wood for several minutes or even hours depending upon the thickness of the wood and the sharpness of the blade.

Woodworking Tools

Woodworking is processing wood to make desired products. Ancient human beings also used wooden materials in their daily life. The two civilizations in ancient time that did woodworking and used wood materials are Chinese and Egyptians. Furniture like tables, chests, chairs and beds of Egyptian times are been kept in tombs after preservation. The coffins inside the tombs are also made in wood.

Miter Saw Blade

The wood working tools of ancient Egyptians are mostly made of copper. Some of the tools they used are adzes, pull saws, bow drills, axes, and chisels. It was only ancient Egyptians who found the practice of using varnishes for better look and also veneering practice. From the olden days, until now the thirst for wood materials has not decreased among people who love to have artistic materials.

Miter Saw Blade

There are a number of woodworking tools available. Table saw is significant among them. The size of this tool is very large. The blade used in this type of saw is circular in shape. To tell in detail, it is a circularly shaped metal disc or a blade and it has saw teeth its edge. It also consists of a machine that runs the blade or makes it to spin.

The characteristics of this circular blade are that it can cut by thin blade, it has a good surface finish, it can give out accurate and straight cuts, it usually gives out burrs, and for this type of blade saw setting must be made geometrically. This kind of circular blade is used in table saws. There are four main divisions of table saws. They are as follows.

Bench top table saws, hybrid table saws, cabinet table saws, contractor table saws. Among all the types of table saws, bench top table saws are the less expensive and less capable. In some cases they can give adequate capacity and good precision. The motor used by bench top is not very durable since they just use the universal type motors. However in the view of size and weight these motors are more advantageous.

About contractor table saws one can say that its size is bigger and the weight is heavier. The collection of dust is somewhat problematic in this type. However, people willing to use it in their homes, it suits them best. It uses the induction motor.

Cabinet saw has a cabinet with a motor enclosed in it. Trunnion is mounted on the cabinet. Three v-belts are used here in a parallel arrangement. It has several advantages. Though it is heavy it decreases the vibration and increases the durability. Dust collection is made easier with the help of the large cabinet it owns. Hybrid saws are very low in price compared to the traditional saws. It provides many advantages similar to cabinet saws.

They also have a special cabinet for effective dust collection. This is available in the tool sold these days. Some of the accessories of table saws are out feed or out feed tables, in feed, rip fence, feather board, hold down, sub fence miter gauge, crosscut sled, tenon jig, inserts, and stacked dado and splitter.

Forrest CM12806115 Chopmaster 12-Inch 80-tooth ATB Miter Saw Blade with 1-Inch Arbor Specifications

We're rarely speechless around here, but after bringing this blade down through a gorgeous piece of maple, it nearly happened. We knew that Forrest makes some of the best blades on the planet, but we truly weren't prepared for the gorgeous cut we got with this blade.

On the back side of plywood, we had zero tearout. When we cut a length of 8/4 oak, it felt like a hot knife through butter, and the result was too good to be believed: smooth as glass, completely free of circle marks of any kind, and it looked like it had been sanded already - cut after cut after cut.

You can pick up a miter saw blade for a tenth of this price, of course. It will cut. But it won't cut like this. And it won't last as long as this blade will, not by a long shot. Because it's made of double-hard C-4 carbide, it holds it edge for what seems like forever, and it resharpens beautifully.

Forrest spends a good deal of time on each blade, ensuring that it's as straight as can be, and that's part of what you're paying for. If you spent good money on a decent miter saw, you owe it to yourself to put this blade on it. After parting with your money, you will never regret buying this blade. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste
